Helderberg Village Croquet Club

Helderberg Village Croquet Club is situated within Helderberg Village, a life-style village for the over 50’s, nestled between Somerset West and the Stellenbosch Winelands. Our lawns are recognised to be of a high standard and in 2008 we co-hosted the World Championships. The Clubhouse has recently been rebuilt and we now have a venue to be proud of. Our membership is continuously growing each year and we welcome players from the surrounding areas and even further afield. Many ‘swallows’  love to join us in the summer months. Beginners are offered one-on-one instruction by our more experienced members. The club has spare mallets to lend visitors and this also gives beginners an opportunity to work out which weight and size suits them, before they go and purchase a mallet of their own.

Both social and serious competition players feel at home in the club. We have a very happy and enthusiastic membership with many tournaments being offered to suit all levels of play.  As well as external competitions, the Club holds internal competitions once a year with a prize-giving followed later on in the year by the annual Christmas lunch. Every last Sunday of the month is Social Sunday when we meet from 3pm onwards to play a few games together followed by drinks, snacks, chat and much fun and laughter and fellowship. It is so enjoyable that members and guests are sometimes very reluctant to leave!

Our players meet 6 times a week on Monday, Wednesday and  Friday afternoons at 2pm and on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings (at 8am in summer and 9am in winter). Wednesday afternoon is usually a time for singles play depending on numbers attending. ‘Whites’ are generally worn in the mornings and for competitions but with recent water restrictions the Club has temporarily relaxed the dress code for social play.
