14 members from Port Alfred Croquet Club came up to East London for the weekend to join 18 of our members for a Warwick sponsored tournament. It was a fun tournament with a difference.

The 32 players were divided into blocks of 8 i.e; 4 blocks with a mix of high and low handicaps in each block. The tournament was played as a doubles format but with each player having a score card and keeping individual scores. With 8 players in each block, every player played each person in their block (seven games). When that was completed the 2 top scorers in each block played quarter finals and then semi- finals and eventually the top 2 played a final - obviously from the quarters on it was all singles matches.

The winner was Rolf Roelofse from St Andrews, runner up Dereck Snaith, 3rd Greta Snaith - both from Port Alfred and in 4th place Robin Fyfe from St Andrews. It was a most enjoyable though very hot week end. Rodney Botha from Warwick came up from Port Elizabeth for a lesson a couple of weeks before the event and then played in the tournament which he thoroughly enjoyed.
We are hoping that this will become an annual event and that Port Alfred will be the next hosts.

About us

We have 12 new members since the beginning of February this year with approximately another ten receiving initial coaching (to the best of our ability!!!)
It would be great if we could organise one of the top players to come this way for a little holiday and to do some coaching.

Next week approximately twelve of our players will be going down to Port Alfred to play in the Highlander tournament.
We are really fortunate that we play on bowling greens, so our lawns are in excellent condition and we welcome Members from other Clubs to come and play if they are ever in this area.
