2010 Gauteng Golf Tournament, part 2

The tournament was completed on Saturday, 8 May on a fine sunny day. The Open Singles semi-finals were played before lunch and saw Mike Corcoran beating Victor Dladla, and Meshack Mazibuko putting out Alfred Makubo. Both were excellent games.

During the afternoon the finals were played, all of them being 19 point games. In the lower handicap singles Alfred Makhubo beat Chris Wakeham 10-8. Alfred is a fast improver and his handicap is likely to drop quickly from his current 4. Christine Wakeham won the higher handicap singles final against Henry Watermeyer.

In the Handicap Doubles, Henry and Maria Watermeyer from Zoo Lake beat Peter and Daphne Langley from Benoni in a very close game. Then came the Open Doubles with Victor and Alfred defeating Clive Coulson and John Hedding.

That left the Open Singles which saw Meshack coming up against Mike Corcoran. By the end of this game the flood lights were on and the spectators were getting cold as at this time of year on the highveld the temperature drops fast after 5pm. Eventually Mike emerged as the victor after an exciting struggle and everyone could go in for the cocktail party and prize-giving.
