Highlander a huge success

What a super week of golf croquet we have just had. The 16th Highlander Tournament was a great success despite the wind and the rain. Croqueteers from the W Cape, Maritzburg, Gauteng and East London joined the Port Alfred stalwarts for the week-long tournament.
The lawns were in very good condition after many hours of preparation by Johan Kirsten, Peter Wansell, Colin Murray and Rick Lovemore, to make them the best ever.

Tim Lewin from the Maritzburg Croquet Club represented SACA.

No Highlander would be a success without our amazing 'kitchen wizard', Mary McGhie who not only provided delicious lunches but won the Open Singles ( A section)! Many, many thanks to Mary, her husband Richard, and to all her helpers.

The tournament managers, Johan and Noeline Kirsten and Phyl Russell kept the play roster running smoothly and Jill Pople as the tournament referee did a wonderful job.

Our sincere thanks go to Rob and Sue Rol of The Highlander and Royal St Andrews Lodge for their continued sponsorship and hospitality throughout the week as well as a great quiz night and prize-giving evening. The social part of the tournament adds to its 'special flavour'!

Congratulations and well played to all the winners. We look forward to hosting you all, new friends and old friends, again next year.
