2015 Nationals

Last year the Nationals started with the Golf Croquet event which was played from 16 – 21 November. The venue was the Country Club, Johannesburg which has four courts at its Auckland Park facility. One of the bowls greens had also been made available so originally the plan had been to have five courts in use. As it happened, the lack of rain meant that one of the normal courts did not recover in time from its spring treatment so we were back to four courts. These were generally in excellent condition, apart from a few patched areas on Court C. The court speed was around 11 plummers with the bowls green being faster at 12 plummers.

There were just over 40 entries for the golf week, with players travelling from Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KZN as well as from Gauteng. A number of visiting participants stayed at the CCJ Dormy House, which meant that they could walk from their rooms through the gardens to the courts each day. Apart from the AGM, there was a braai one evening and supper and quiz on another evening. The prize-giving function was held on Saturday, 21 November.

Apart from a thunderstorm on the Monday afternoon, the weather was good although rather hot.

In the Open Singles semi-finals, Peter Dreyer beat Thomas More and Chris Wakeham beat Silvia Dreyer. In the best of 3 final, Chris Wakeham beat Peter Dryer 2-1.

The Open Doubles was won by Alison Lewin from Maritzburg CC and Christine Wakeham from CCJ. They beat Paul McCreadie and Tim Lewin in the final.

Full results have already been posted on this website.

There were only 8 players in the Association event, as several potential participants were unable to get time off from work.

This meant that the five events all consisted of single blocks with the top two playing a final.

Victor Dladla beat Chris Wakeham in the Open and Handicap Singles finals. Christine Wakeham won the Restricted Singles, Veterans' Handicap Singles and Restricted Handicap Singles. In the first two, she beat Peter Dreyer in the final and in the latter, she beat Mike Corcoran. Further results can also be found on the website.
