Fish Hoek Croquet Club is situated in the picturesque Fish Hoek valley, on the Cape Peninsula some 40km south of Cape Town. Golf Croquet is played. There are two full sized courts and a small club house. Regular club playing days are Tuesday and Saturday afternoons from 1:30 pm, and Thursday mornings at 9:00 am when team practice takes priority. Our members range from those with enviably low handicaps who participate regularly in competitions, to social players who enjoy an afternoon in the sun with good company.
Members and Visitors:
The Club has approximately 30 members, about half of whom participate regularly in local and National competitions and tournaments. New members (there is an annual membership fee) and visitors are welcome. Visitors’ green fees are R 30, which includes tea. We have suspended the wearing of white clothing due to the water shortage and constant washing required to keep them clean!
A coaching session was arranged recently for our members. Thanks to Lionel Tibble and David Wise who ran the training. Everyone agreed that it was well worthwhile.
Our Open Singles tournament was held on Saturday, 15 February. The tournament was won by Alan Roberts with Graham Wallin as runner-up.
Farewell to Paul, Graham and Margaret:
- A bring and braai was held following the Open Singles event
- We also said farewell to Paul Bolton who is leaving for Australia shortly. Paul served on the committee as Treasurer for many years.
- Margaret and Graham Wallin are swallows who, unfortunately, will not be returning after nearly 20 seasons playing at our club.
